Choosing the right health insurance policy and agent in Utah is one of the most important financial decisions you can make for your family. This comes at NO ADDITIONAL cost to the family. All agents are paid the exact same for all providers and all plans.
The right health insurance policy can provide peace of mind, financial security, and access to quality healthcare. It’s essential to choose a plan that fits your family's unique needs, considering factors such as coverage options, network of healthcare providers, and out-of-pocket costs. By making an informed decision, you can avoid unexpected medical bills and ensure your Utah family receives the care they need when they need it.
Assess Your Family's Healthcare Needs
I believe it is very important to your family to consider the medical history, ongoing treatments, and potential health risks for each family member.
Meagan’s Family Advice: "Understanding your family’s specific healthcare needs helps tailor your insurance plan, ensuring everyone gets the coverage they need without overpaying. Our job is to help you take the best care of your family medically and financially."
Look at multiple health insurance plans from different providers to find the best balance of coverage and cost. In Utah we have had great responses and experiences with these providers such as Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield, Select Health and Aetna. For many of our clients an HSA PLAN was a great choice, although not for everyone.
Meagan’s Family Advice: "Don’t settle for the first plan you come across. Comparing options can save you money and provide better benefits for your family in the long run."
Pay close attention to the benefits, network of providers, premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket maximums. Details can seem complicated and in some cases they are. Your experienced agent should be able to help you walk through each detail and determine the right one for you each year. Going over these details annually allows your family to adjust to the right provider at the right moment. Remember your needs may change and you are not locked into last year's decision.
Meagan’s Family Advice: "Read the fine print. Understanding the specifics of what each plan offers will help you avoid surprises later on."
The cheapest plan may not always offer the best value or coverage for your family’s needs.
Research Statistics based on gender and age of your family members. Be assured the insurance companies KNOW the stats and are always counting on your higher participation. My friends, if your agent is not aware of the statistics driving age and gender please reach out so we can help guide your decision.
Meagan’s Family Advice: "While it’s tempting to choose the least expensive option, make sure the plan covers essential services and doesn’t leave you with high out-of-pocket costs."
Ensure your preferred doctors and hospitals are included in the plan’s network to avoid higher costs.
Very often families in Utah are surprised when they change policies and their Dr’s no longer accept the new insurance plan. This can happen easily each year because providers change networks as well. So staying in last year's network does not mean last year's providers are there.
Meagan’s Family Advice: "Check the network before committing. Out-of-network care can be significantly more expensive, which might negate any savings from a cheaper premium."
Verify that the plan covers necessary medications and that the costs are manageable.
Meagan’s Family Advice: "Prescription costs can add up quickly and in many Utah Family cases create unnecessary long term financial burdens. Ensure your medications are covered to avoid unexpected expenses."
Residents of Salt Lake City and nearby cities like Draper, Lehi, Bluffdale, Riverton, Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs, Murray, South Jordan, and West Jordan have several health insurance options to choose from. Understanding these options can help you make an informed decision:
Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance: Many employers offer health insurance plans as part of their benefits package. These plans can be cost-effective due to employer contributions.
Individual and Family Plans: If your employer doesn’t offer health insurance, you can purchase individual or family plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace or directly from insurers. REMEMBER you are not OBLIGATED to take your employer sponsored plan. If you find that plan to be too expensive, not having the Providers your family needs or coverage you want you have choices. Reach out to an experienced agent and learn how.
Medicaid and CHIP: Low-income families may qualify for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which provide comprehensive coverage at little to no cost.
Medicare: Available for individuals aged 65 and older, as well as some younger individuals with disabilities, Medicare offers various plans to cover different healthcare needs.
